Cry for Help: Dutch Pro-Life Group Passes out Models of 10 Week Old Fetus
Just a Blob of Tissue by Emissary
From the Netherlands comes this story:
The two inch long model represents a fetus at ten weeks of actual length and weight. “At four weeks the heart of the unborn beats; the model shows that it is a child with hands, feet and a nose even able to bring it finger to its mouth” according to the Dutch pro-life group Cry for Life.
. . .
The secular Dutch press picked up rumors that Cry for Life intended to distribute the model to all homes and condemned the plan as hurtful to women who had had abortions, miscarriages or were not able to conceive.
I think that the condemnation of the press is very interesting. I can definitely understand how it might hurt someone who had miscarried to see how much of a person she lost. The “unable to conceive” group I can somewhat see. If you were never able to have a child, I can see how much it would hurt to know that others are aborting babies that are so obviously human.
But those who have aborted babies?
We’ve constantly been told that it’s a “woman’s choice”; that it’s “just a blob of tissue”; that it’s “not a human being” until at least viable. So why should it hurt a woman to see this non-human, blob of tissue that it was her decision to get rid of?
Even with all of the rhetoric, I think many women who have had abortions realize that they did something very wrong. I have read many of their stories. They have a very hard time forgiving themselves. The taking of life is a very serious thing. It should not be treated as getting rid of a nuisance or an economically conservative measure.
Since the heart starts to beat at four weeks, an abortion stills a beating heart. So something is dying. If not a human being, then what is it?
Note from Pomegranate Apple:
Whether someone is pro-life or pro-choice, women should be given the facts. This way, they can make an informed decision. Many women (and teen girls) go into abortion without knowing all the information. This should be a point on which everyone agrees: education and information will only be helpful.
I don’t understand the hesitancy to acknowledge what a 10-week old fetus looks like.
We map out tumors before they removed, shouldn’t women know what the fetus looks like?

Good idea – it makes the fetus a tangible person and not just a piece of tissue.

Did any of you catch the news article this week about the girl that went in for an abortion, but delivered a live baby, and the allegations that the clinic staff murdered the baby? Here’s the story: http://www.justnews.com/news/18650594/detail.html

I’ve seen these models before. They are very good. Perhaps they should be available at every doctors surgery.

I had my 12 week scan on Wednesday 4th Feb. I was told that my babies heart stopped beating at 10 weeks. This is my third pregnancy and I have a three year old boy and a one year old girl. I have a picture of the baby and it had little hands a face, everything really in minuture. It has amazed me how many people think my baby is somehow ‘unformed’ or a bunch of cells. People are surprised when I tell them. I think we have detatched ourselves from the reality.

I agree Ruby, people could even add the ultrasound images to their family albums.

Secular, I know lots of people who already do that, families who want to keep their baby usually love the ultrasound pictures.
I also think it’s only sensible for women who are considering abortion, to know what it is that is inside their bodies.
